Malaria is caused by the single-celled parasite Plasmodium. It is transmitted from one person to another by certain species of blood sucking mosquito. The parasite spends part of its complex life cycle inside red blood cells.

Courses

The Society offers INSET courses for teachers and technicians to keep up-to-date with current issues and research in microbiology, within the context of the National Curriculum and examining body specifications.

The Society runs courses in Basic and Advanced Practical Microbiology for Secondary Schools. We have no courses scheduled at the moment. If you are interested in hosting one please get in touch with our Communication Team Administrator y.taylor@sgm.ac.uk
